This presentation covers the main theoretical concepts and how Adler used his own life experiences to inform his psychological perspectives. Participants will be invited to engage in self-reflective activities to help illuminate the concepts on a personal level.

2) Discuss the influence one’s lifestyle has on cognition and behavior

3) Synthesize how their own life experiences can be understood from an Adlerian framework

This presentation demonstrates how to take the main theoretical concepts and apply them with clients. Attendees will learn how to interpret clients’ life experiences and information in a manner that motivates clients toward making changes to resolve the presenting concern.

2) Discuss the influence one’s lifestyle has on the presenting concern

3) Explain how purposefulness of behavior works and how it can be used to motivate

Transcending History: Adlerian Conceptualizations of Counseling Transgender and Gender-Expansive Clients

This interactive presentation will explore working with transgender and gender-expansive individuals through an Adlerian framework. The history of transgender and gender-expansive people will be discussed, and previous pathologizing of these identities dismantled. Adlerian theory and life tasks will be demonstrated as practical for working with transgender and gender-expansive individuals.


PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO:

1) describe how the Adlerian theoretical framework, from past to present, conceptualizes gender and gender expansive expression.

2) apply the Adlerian theoretical framework (Five Life Tasks, Four Phase Procedure) to the presenting issues of transgender and gender-expansive individuals.

3) demonstrate Adlerian therapeutic techniques to use with transgender and gender-expansive clients in a client-centered way.

Adler And Aging: Comparing Adlerian Principles For Use With Adult Populations Of Differing Ages

As adults age, their needs and views change making it necessary for mental health professionals to adapt our principles and techniques to align with these changes. This workshop details ways to view Adlerian principles through the lens of working with younger versus older adults and teaches technique modifications for use with older adults and those with cognitive decline.


Objectives:

1) Demonstrate knowledge in the application of Adlerian principles to older versus younger adults.

2) Describe specific stressors facing LGBTQ+ individuals as they age.

3) Discover how to reconnect older individuals with their communities to stave off isolation and lack of purpose by increasing social interest and engagement.

1) Describe how the Adlerian theoretical framework, including concepts and the four phases of therapy, can be generalized to supervision practices.

2) Integrate the Adlerian theoretical framework with social justice best practices in regard to working with supervisees.

This presentation begins with self-assessment to uncover important lifestyle traits that influence how one views ethical issues. The influence of the current pandemic on distance counseling and several key considerations will be discussed. Important articles from the APA and ACA codes of ethics will be incorporated throughout the presentation.


Participants will be able to:

1) Discuss how key lifestyle traits influence one’s view of ethics in the fields of psychology and counseling

2) Explain 3 significant considerations when engaging in distance counseling

3) Discuss 3 relevant articles from the APA and/or ACA Ethical Codes and why those stand out as important to them
