Marta Stefanyshyn, MS, Ed.S., LPC
Join me for a day of fun, creative self-expression through drawings, paintings, and group activities. No artistic skills are required to participate in this workshop. All of the activities are simple and designed to bring out the unique strengths and potentials we all have. Learn how these exercises can be useful in the therapy process with children, adults, and groups.
Participants will:
1) Learn about Adlerian principles such as individual uniqueness, humans’ creative potentials, and various forms of personal expressions, including embodied and meaningful expression.
2) Learn how our unique character is formed and how engagement in life experiences reveal our uniqueness.
3) Learn creative art techniques that can be used in the therapy process.
4) Engage in experiential art activities and group exercises that allow for the exploration of Adlerian principals and empathic understanding of the break up experience in case narratives.
7:45am-12:15pm (4 Clock Hours)
Using the BASIS-A Inventory as an Assessment Tool in Clinical Supervision
Susan Belangee, PhD, LPC, NCC, ACS
The utility of the BASIS-A as an assessment tool and as a developmental process in supervision will be discussed. By knowing oneself better, supervisors will learn how to avoid pitfalls and power struggles with supervisees, and in turn supervisees will understand the impact of their lifestyles on the counseling process.
Objectives:
1) Understand the purpose of the BASIS-A Inventory in Adlerian lifestyle assessment and, by taking it themselves, they will further understand how to interpret it in the counseling and supervision settings.
2) Synthesize their knowledge of supervision with an Adlerian model for conducting supervision that highlights theoretical constructs, including lifestyle, and their relevance to the development of their supervisees.
8:45-12pm (3 Clock Hours)
Sailing the Seven C’s: Adlerian Couples Counseling
Gary Bauman, PhD, LPC, CPCS
Adler acknowledged that intimate relationships were one of the most significant tasks of life. To succeed, the task requires much social interest and cooperation. Unfortunately, couples often feel defeated when relationships seem to capsize and they seek out help from clinicians who can guide them through treacherous waters and help keep the relationship afloat.
Objectives:
1) Provide a foundation and an overview of couples therapy from an Adlerian standpoint, highlighting many of the Adlerian tenets and challenges that will occur in couples therapy.
2) Provide a discussion and demonstration for conducting an Adlerian counseling session with couples and the stages that such counseling would likely go through.
